PROGRAMS

Ladies Musical Club was founded over a century ago with the purpose of stimulating the development of musical activity in what was then a frontier community. By the end of that year, membership was 50 women.

In 1900, LMC inaugurated a concert series presenting great visiting artists. Over the years, the LMC International Artist Series brought a list of performers to Seattle that reads like a Who's Who of musical history, including Emmanuel Ax, Pablo Casals, Marilyn Horne, Paderewski, Rachamaninoff, Arthur Rubenstein, Schumann-Heink, Elisabeth Schwartzkopf, and more.

In collaboration with the UW World Series at Meany Hall for the Performing Arts, LMC sponsored several performances each season through the 2004–05 concert season. Collaborative events often extended the performance to include pre-concert lectures and performer residencies and master classes in local schools. LMC no longer participates as a co-supporter of selected UW World Series concerts, but you can find more information about these concerts at www.uwworldseries.org.

LMC has supported musical organizations including the Seattle Symphony, the Seattle Youth Symphony, the Seattle Young Artists Festival and the San Francisco and Metropolitan Opera Auditions.

The LMC historical archive is housed at the Museum of History and Industry, where documents and memorabilia are available for study by the public.
